I bought this because it was my dream car since I was 12. I always loved Camaros and I just happened upon this one by luck and had to have it. It is a 69 RS with a 69 non-original 350/350turbo and a 12bolt from a chevelle w/3.73 gears. The cowl tag decodes to a 69 X-11code Cortez Silver Std. Blue int. It originally had a 350/350t combo and came from the Ohio plant. The Cowl hood and Rally stripes were added before I got it, but I like 'em and plan on keeping them. It is in pretty good shape, but has some bubbles around the fender wells and has had the passenger floor pan replaced by a butcher. I hope to get it completly stripped and painted this fall. That is if I can get all the drivetrain problems cleared up.

I have had a ton of problems with the engine. I worked on the fuel sysyem all winter(back orders, wrong parts, 3 regulators, 2 pumps, and a return line later), and was finally getting to start driving it and breaking it in. I finally got to put an exhaust on it, and the day I came from the exhaust shop, I noticed a knock. Only had about 125 miles on the engine. We first thought it was the exhaust hitting something. Nope. Then we started with the ignition system. Checking to see if the distributor was off a tooth or 2, checking the timing. Nope. Even added racing fuel to rule out spark knock. Nope. Thought it might even be a bad tq. convertor or something with the tranny. Nope. I was really trying anything to get away from the obvious. The knock was in the bottom of the engine on the passenger side near the rear of the engine.

I sent the engine back to Golen's and they said that they couldn't find the cause and that all clearances were the same as when put together. So, there goes another grand towards the engine I hadn't planned on. I get it back and decide to have it dyno tuned to get the most hp and to make sure their #'s were right. Well, the dyno shop actually added 20 hp but that only put it up to 352hp/422tq. I have been on the phone with the engine shop more times than I care to remember. They finally agreed to send me a set of 492 Fuelie heads to help. I finally received them a month later, but now have to wait on gaskets. These heads should be a lot better than the 993's that were originally on the engine. They flowed 243int/147exh @.500 lift. I don't have flow #'s on the 993's but probably a lot less. That is where I am on the second week of Dec. 2001. I'll update later

When I got it, I decided the basic plan I was going to go with, and started to work on it. I started with a complete PST urethane suspension kit for the front, new stock coil springs, new calipers, new rotors, new bolt-in frame connectors. It really helped with the ride and handling. I have since picked up a new set of 15x8 Rally wheels and have a set of BFG Drag Radials mounted on the rear. I also want a set of 16x8 black GTA wheels for it when I want to take it on a trip and for a different look occasionally. Other than carpet, the interior is in good shape. I plan on keeping it looking pretty close to stock. I have added a Grant wheel(stock was cracked), and have added a set of Bowtie gauges in the console & a Bowtie tach on the column. I have also added a Kenwood tape deck(with the 2 knobs) with Pioneer 6x9's & tweeters. I plan on keeping the Horseshoe shifter when I add the overdrive tranny.

I decided to get a new engine for more power and I wanted to know that if I got it painted I wouldn't have to pull the engine for a rebuild(couldn't get any info on the motor from the previous 3 owners). I decided to go with a Golens Engine Service 383 Stroker w/ 401hp&408tq. They have a lifetime labor warranty and don't mind that the engine will see drag strip time. I added chrome Chey valve covers & Breather, polished alum. intake,770 Holley Street Avenger carb, polished water pump, chrome alt. & brackets, chrome oil pan, coated Dynomax headers,hi-torque mini-starter,billet alum. pulleys, fully adj. Summit HEI dist,Msd in cap coil,Msd 6AL(not installed yet),red Taylor wires. I have also went with a Summit elect. fuel pump & regulator with -6AN braided lines and fittings from the tank to the carb(The fuel system has been the holdup since installation. Burned up pump, bad regulator, had to plumb a return line from the reg.) I need to get a few miles on the engine and then I am going to start on the 700r4 tranny. I already have all the parts for the tranny swap and just hope to get started soon.
