For Sale 2

For Sale--383 w/ 490hp & 503tq

I am listing this engine for my buddy Rick, that owns Hi-Tech Engines of Pikeville,Ky (606) 432-6545. He has really mastered the Chevy Vortec style heads, I am running a set of his heads and one of his carb's on my 383 right now and couldn't be more satisfied.

The engine started as a useable core 4-bolt block and was honed w/ torque plate and align bored. An Eagle crank was installed and the Eagle rods were bolted in with "Notch" Keith Black pistons & Moly rings. The rotating assembly was balanced and the whole engine was blueprinted. A hydraulic cam with .510/.510 Lift was added and then the bottom end was buttoned up. Next, a set of ProTopLine Vortec heads were massaged for 2.05/1.60 valves & gutted to flow 295int/218exh and fitted with springs to match the cam. The heads were bolted on with chrome center-bolt covers and the top end was finished off with a Edelbrock Super Victor intake for Vortecs. These heads squeeze the engine to a "Pump Friendly" 10.9-1 compression (more about that in a minute).

After the engine was finished, it was bolted on the SuperFlow dyno for about 30 pulls for tuning and testing of different parts(intakes, etc). A pretty good average of the runs is right around 490hp/500tq. The highest was 495hp/505tq. 93 octane fuel was used for most of the pulls, but racing fuel was used hoping to get over 500hp but didn't change the #'s enough to mention(EGT's didn't change either). So, this is the perfect STREET ENGINE! After the dyno pulls a leak down test was performed on all cylinders to check for damage and no cylinder was over 9%. I have a dyno sheet with the results of the leakdown test of each cylinder if there are any questions about a particular cylinder or anything else. The engine is still bolted to the dyno at this time, but will be removed in a couple of weeks. So if you are interested in seeing the results for your self, contact us quickly.

The engine is for sale from intake to oil pan, with the flywheel & harmonic balancer and the water pump. All that will be needed to be ready to run is a carb, distributor, wires, plugs, and alternator. The engine is being offered for $ 4,000. That is a steal for these kinds of numbers.

If you are interested contact Rick Meade at Hi-Tech Racing Engines (606)432-6545 or email me @ htrd69@hotmail.com I have a couple of pics and can email them to you.

SBC Turbo Setup for Carb'd Engines
It is a Martin Turbo system made for SBC's. They are no longer being produced and hard to find. The system includes a Quadrajet Carb(tuned for turbo use), a 2 piece aluminum 9lb intake only for turbos, RayJay turbo & heat shield, both exhaust manifolds(drivers side & passenger*turbo* side), crossover pipe(connects both exhaust manifolds), downpipe(connects to the exhaust), plumbing from intake to turbo and from turbo to intake under carb, oil plumbing lines(braided stainless), & a box of bolts and nuts. There are no instructions but it is pretty self explanatory after you start fabbing it up. I dummied it up on a 305 I have on an engine stand in about 20 minutes. You don't have to have special brackets or pulleys like superchargers. The only major bump I saw was running the exhaust, it has to go from the downpipe(above the valve cover* short valve covers are a must for clearance*), between the engine and frame, then down under the car on the passenger side. If you have a descent exhaust shop local, it shouldn't be to hard. The oiling system is simple. Screw a fitting in the back of the block and put the adapter plate between the fuel pump and the block and the oiling system is plumbed.

I was told that I could go as high as 9.5-1 compression and still run it if I used good gas, had a good ignition, and the timing right on. I was thinking between 8.5 to 9.-1. The numbers I came up with on the Desktop Dyno(600+hp on 383 & between 450-500 on 305) were with a generic cam profile and like 7.5-8 lb of boost. So with a custom ground cam and an accurate boost # , the hp could be higher. I haven't used the system, but the guy that I bought it from said that on his stock 70's model 305 Camaro, it went from a 1/4 mile time of 17.1 to 13.4. He said that when he sold the car that he took it off and it had been setting in his garage since.

As for the status of the turbo, I took it to a local shop(This shop happens to have the worlds record for a stock bottom end Syclone of 9.90's in the 1/4), and the main guy looked at it. He said that the impellor had very little endplay and that for street and occasional strip use that it would have plenty of life left. He knows his stuff about turbo's and I trust him. Check out my links page to get to his site(Tobefast). I was also thinking of going thru the carb before using just to be sure that wouldn't be a problem because it was sitting for a couple of years.

I also have a 6lb 2 piece intake, but is is missing one of the pipes that connects the turbo to the intake. A replacement could be fabbed but I was going to use the 9lb and didn't worry about it. One could probably go with the smaller intake to compensate for higher compression but I am not sure. I will include it if the selling price is right. If I keep the 6lb intake manifold, I may try to piece together another system later when funds are better.

I am asking $ 1650 for the whole system shipped, anything less does not include shipping & 6lb intake. These systems sold for around $ 3500 new and are no longer available new. I have seen a couple of these systems here and there(nowhere near as complete) for a little less.

I can get pictures if you would like to see. I can take some of it dummied up on the engine and then spread out on the floor so you can see what all the parts are.
