What's New?

What's New with My Cars?
Well, minor car problems and many health problems have set me back. I still haven't had it to the track, but will have it there at least once by the end of summer. I had to have the tranny worked on(which took about 2 months), and am currently having a 750 Holley Double Pumper built for my car. I don't like the vacuum secondary that I have right now. I have added a MSD 6AL, Air/Fuel Monitor, and Cool Flex hoses also! I still have to have the drive shaft redone, the shop made it about 1" to short. Hope to get that done shortly. I've not got the engine broke in yet but if the rain ever lets up maybe I'll get it running and put some miles on it. 05/18/03

OK, it's been a while since my last update but I am a little slow. I decided to not waste my time with the fuelies and bought a set of Vortec's that had been ported to flow 280int/211exh @.500 lift. I sold the fuelies to offset the cost some. The guy I got them from was running 12.50 in a full-body daily driven Monte Carlo SS with the stock gear. Our setups were very similar accept for his big roller cam. I have a lighter car and 4.11 gears to help with that. I finally got the engine in the car, but bumped the oil pan and have had a leak ever since. I recently changed the gasket and have almost remedied the problem, just a small spot now. I'll cure that in a day or 2. I've got a couple of tranny leaks but I expected that with the change-over to the OD. I'll fix them quickly too and will hopefully get it to the track in the next month or so. I'll keep updating occasionally. 5/10/02

I have had a ton of problems with the engine in the Camaro. I worked on the fuel sysyem all last winter(back orders, wrong parts, 3 regulators, 2 pumps, and a return line later), and was finally getting to start driving it and breaking it in. I finally got to put an exhaust on it, and the day I came from the exhaust shop, I noticed a knock. Only had about 125 miles on the engine. We first thought it was the exhaust hitting something. Nope. Then we started with the ignition system. Checking to see if the distributor was off a tooth or 2, checking the timing. Nope. Even added racing fuel to rule out spark knock. Nope. Thought it might even be a bad tq. convertor or something with the tranny. Nope. I was really trying anything to get away from the obvious. The knock was in the bottom of the engine on the passenger side near the rear of the engine.

I sent the engine back to Golen's and they said that they couldn't find the cause and that all clearances were the same as when put together. So, there goes another grand towards the engine I hadn't planned on. I get it back and decide to have it dyno tuned to get the most hp and to make sure their #'s were right. Well, the dyno shop actually added 20 hp but that only put it up to 352hp/422tq. I have been on the phone with the engine shop more times than I care to remember. They finally agreed to send me a set of 492 Fuelie heads to help. I finally received them a month later, but now have to wait on gaskets. These heads should be a lot better than the 993's that were originally on the engine. They flowed 243int/147exh @.500 lift. I don't have flow #'s on the 993's but probably a lot less. That is where I am on the second week of Dec. 2001.

I also just got a turbo setup for a small block chevy with the carb and everything. I am currently thinking of putting it in the 87 GTA with the spare 350 I have setting in storage. Or I might sell it. I'll keep you posted.
